What is the camera obscura?

The camera obscura has been around for centuries, and it remains one of the most fascinating tools used in photography. A camera obscura is a device that projects an image onto a surface or screen through a small hole. This type of device was originally developed by Arab scientists in the Middle Ages as an aid to drawing and painting, but it was later adapted for use in photography.

In its simplest form, the camera obscura consists of two components: a dark chamber with at least one opening (the aperture) which allows light to enter; and some kind of projection surface such as paper or cloth on which the image can be seen. The size and shape of this aperture determines how much light enters into the room – if there is too much light then nothing will be visible on your projection surface; however if you make it smaller then more detail will appear on your projected image.

When using this type of equipment, photographers must take care not to overexpose their images since they have no control over exposure settings like shutter speed or ISO sensitivity – all these adjustments are made manually with careful consideration given to each shot taken within this environment! Additionally because there’s no digital manipulation involved here so any mistakes made during shooting cannot be corrected afterwards either meaning that every single photo taken needs perfect timing & precision from start till finish!
